So, what is a school council?
One way children can express themselves and share their opinions is through their School Council. A school council allows all children to share their view and ideas about their school. A school council is formed by a group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils.
What are the aims of the school council?
To make sure that our school is a safe and happy place for our children.
To make sure that our children have a place to voice their concerns.
To encourage all children in the school to suggest improvements.
To make sure any suggestions or concerns are listened to and acted upon.
How does the School Council work?
The School Council representatives meet each half term. They are given the opportunity to discuss any issues raised by their peers or by a member of staff. Then, representatvies are given time to feedback to their class. The meetings are led by Miss Jones, who is responsible for the School Council and our Chairperson Sophie (Yr 6). Meetings are minuted by our Secretary Jacob (Yr 6).
What does a School Councillor do?
Pupils who are elected have a very important job to do in the school. Pupils are expected to:
- attend meetigns once every half term.
- talk to their class before meetings to obtain ideas
- share ideas and opinions with the School Council
- feedback to their class after meetings
- speak with confidence
- consider and respect the views of others
- be identifiable by wearing a School Council badge
