Year 6 2019 - 2020

Mrs Hopkins

Mrs Davies

Thank you and well done to year 6 on a brilliant term!!

Bike ability begins on Monday 3rd June. All information is provided in the original letter and pack which you recieved. This includes a checklist and details of the course itself. Children will need to bring their bikes and safety equipment each day from Monday to Thursday.

Have a great half term break!

Follow the link below, then use your own username and password to log in. Practice the level 5 and 6 words - pick your own difficulty level!

For homework this week: record at least three times that you’ve read, including a comment about the book; complete 3 games on TTRocks; use the link below to play the homophones and commas games.

Have a great weekend!

Well done to Cameron and Libby who earned their awards this week for their fantastic diary entries as Zoe from Floodland, our new class text by Marcus Sedgwick.

Curtis Watts - Poet

Year 6 had a fantaastic day on Tuesday after spending the morning with Curtis Watts. We wrote some fantastic poetry and performed it to the rest of the class.

Writing Survey

As the children have been given lots of lines and songs to learn, they will not have set homework other than to read a minimum of 3 times (recorded in their reading record, one instance should be signed and/or commented on by an adult), to complete 5 games on TT Rocks, trying to reach the next level they are working on, and to learn their spellings.

However, I have listed below some useful websites and games for optional, additional homework. (choose 'grade 5' to review objectives from last year - we will be moving on to fractions and decimals in January.)

Play Target Numbers using this grid below (children know how to play this!) :

Play the Dictionary Game with the family!

Flick through the dictionary until asked to stop.
Ask someone to choose 1-4 to select which column.
Ask someone to choose from 1-(15) to choose a word.
Read the definition and see who can guess what the word is!

Year 6 and Coding

Year 6 had a great time at the STEAM festival on Monday. We enjoyed some great science experiments, engineering challenges, art projects and rocket building!

On Monday the 1st October, we will be going on a trip to the Boat Museam.

We will be leaving at 8.45 - the doors will be open from 8.30am so you can come in and get organised.

You will need a packed lunch.

Joseph G: For demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and encouraging his team mates.

Sophia-Rose: Last week's merit award winner, for putting 100% into everything she does!

Congratulations to the Year 6 football team who won their match against Cherry Grove, 4-3.

Well done!

Joe B: for researching and presenting information about his Great-Grandad, who fought in World War II.

Oliver L: for sharing with the class the letters which his family recieved from the Royal family during WWI and WWII, and explaining what his relatives did in the war.

Well done boys, and thank you for your hard work!

Welcome back!

The children have settled in fabulously to Y6 and the new term.

It was lovely to meet so many of you at Meet the Teacher on Thursday but if you couldn't make it, don't worry as the presentation is available below.

Year 6 have made a great start to the new term and are superb role models for all of the children, but have been especially good at taking care of their Reception Class buddies, and helping them in and around the school - thank you, year 6!
