Year 6 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Y6 with Mrs Hopkins, Miss Yates, Mrs Davies, Mrs Jenson & Mrs Rustom

We have been learning about inspriational people. This video of Roas Parks on BBC Bitesize is a great resource in the first person. We learn about Rosa and her story.
We will be sending Home-Learning books home this week. These are just to be used in the event that the class, groups or individuals need to isolate at home and are accessing Home-Learning through our Google Classroom.
As we need to ensure our classrooms are well ventilated, this does unfortunately mean they are a lot cooler than usual, especially as the get closer to the Winter months. Please ensure children are coming to school in appropriate clothing and bring an extra layer (additional jumper or fleece, for example) which they can wear whilst in class if needed. This should stay in school.
On PE days (Tuesday this half-term), we ask that children wear their school shoes or weather-proof footwear and bring their trainers to change in to for PE. This is because during playtimes when it is wet outside, trainers (and socks) are becoming wet very quickly, which can make children cold throughout the rest of the day.
DT- Anderson Shelters from WW2
Year 6 completed some fantastic Amderson Shelter models this half-term, as we learned about World War 2. They were tasked with making their shelters waterproof, strong enough to support 1kg and large enough for a lego man to shelter in! Every shelter passed all three of these tests, thanks to the materials the children chose and the way in which they constructed and supported their shelters. Well done Year 6!
Welcome to Year 6!
Unfortunately this year we haven't been able to welcome parents and carers into our classroom to meet the teachers and other adults working with year 6 this year. Instead, we have put together this short video for you to outline some of the things you can expect for the year ahead. You can find these at the bottom of our class page.
Please do get in touch with us with any questions you might have.
Forest Schools Group 1
Friday 11th, Friday 18th and Friday 25th September.
Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers
As mentioned in our recent newsletter, Y6 will be working with Mr Hadfield and accessing outdoor learning linked to our curriculum. The children in Y6 will be in two groups with your son, daughter, ward is in group one. We are really looking forward to working with an expert in the area of Forest Schools and Outdoor Learning. We will also be developing self awareness and the capacity to work successfully with others. This outdoor learning will take place in the grassed area beyond the EYFS/Y1 playground and will take place even if it is raining!
It is important that children wear appropriate clothing for this outdoor learning experience.
- Y6 will take part in Forest School Outdoor Learning on the afternoon of Friday 11th, Friday 18th and Friday 25th September.
- Children should come to school on 11th, 18th & 25th September in their PE kit for the morning and have suitable clothing for Forest Schools to add to their PE kit clothing for the afternoon.
- Suitable clothing: waterproof trousers or trousers that are warm and will dry quickly (not jeans), several top layers so that children can take these layers off if they get warm, a shower proof coat, hats and gloves are optional and dependent on the weather. Please ensure ALL items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
- Suitable footwear for outdoor learning. This footwear should be waterproof wellies or sturdy shoes. The children can wear their trainers for the morning and change for the afternoon sessions. (A plastic bag to carry changed shoes home.)
Thank you for your continued support.
