Should the Great Fire of London have happened?
We were all very excited this morning when we received a parcel from the 'police'. We even paused our English lesson! The parcel included witness statements, maps, paintings, tax forms, newspaper articles and much more!
We are all really excited about investigating the Great Fire of London further and becoming great detectives.

Stone Age Cooking in Year 3, by Miss Jones

Year 3 have been getting busy in the kitchen and followed a Stone Age recipe for stewed fruit. We used lots of cooking skills and enjoyed making the Stone Age inspired dish, We talked about how people in the Stone Age would hunt and gather their own food. The next day we tasted our dishes and wrote a set of instructions for someone else to make it. We also evaluated our dish, thinking abouts its taste, smell and appearance and what we would do differently next time.
Some of the children asked for the recipe so I have uploaded it to the Files section.

Thank you to George and Graham - artists who are working on transforming our foyer. They are using the history of Oldfield to inform the design of the entrance. It is looking fabulous.

Year 2 have been extremly lucky this week as Mr Smith (Ava's Dad) has very kindly come in and taught us a French lesson based on greetings.
The class have learnt how to ask 'How are you?' and how to answer the question using the following phrases in French...

Year 3 Visit to Tesco, by Miss Jones

What a fabulous time we have had at Tesco! Have a look at our gallery to see what we got up to.
As part of our science topic, Year 3 visited the Tesco store in Chester and took part in a Farm to Fork Trail. They learnt about the importance of healthy eating and how we can make healthy good choices. First, the children took part in a fruit and vegetable colour hunt. Then, we visited the sugar aisle to learn where sugar comes from and how much we should eat in a day. Did you know children should have no more than 6 cubes of sugar and adults should have no more than 7?
After that, we went in the warehouse and tasted lots of healthy snacks that we could haveto reduce the amount of sugar we eat. We tasted prunes, wraps, carrot sticks, cucumber, cream cheese, sunflower seeds and tzatziki. Next, the children visited the cereal aisle so that they could predict and measure the amount of sugar in some of our favourite cereals. We were shocked to see so much sugar in most of the cereals. Finally, we used selected some low sugar ingredients to make our own breakfast cereal to take home.

Year 2 - Chester Zoo ranger surprise!, by Mrs Harrison

Year 2 had a fantastic surprise on Wednesday. A Chester Zoo ranger came in to talk with them about African animals.
They used their prior knowledge of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores to differentiate between animals which live in Africa.
Did you know that every mango has been passed through an elephants digestive system at some point in time.
Year 2 Music - "Hey you! What you gonna do?", by Mrs Harrison

Year 2 have been using their creative skills to change elements of the song "Hey you! What you gonna do?"
The class have had the opportunity to develop their rapping and singing skills as well as developing their ability to play the glockenspiel.
We have some rock stars in this class for sure!
Year 4 'Talking Rubbish!', by Mrs Hover

We all learnt lots today with our safari rangers from Chester Zoo. After a chat sharing what we knew about 'rubbish', we worked in groups to decide which objects belong in the sea and which objects don't. We looked at biodegradable and non-biodegradable objects and then attempted to order the objects based on how long they take to break down. We discussed how our rubbish can be dangerous to animals and finally, we learnt what we could do to help - Recycle, Reuse, Reduce. The children then enjoyed asking many good questions about today's workshop and the animals at Chester Zoo.

We looked at an owl and felt its feathers, felt a furry bat skin and the spiky quills from a porcupine. We talked about different nocturnal animals and played a game.

Today we were visited by Anya from Chester zoo. We talked about life cycles and the different categories of animals. Anya showed us lots of different eggs and we even watched a tiger and an elephant being born at the zoo.
