This week we carried out some geography fieldwork in our local area. We explored Vicars Cross and recorded our observations in preparation to create our own map. Thank you so much to the parents who came to help us on the trip! :)

This week we atrted reading our fantastic new story book 'Silly Billy' by Anthony Browne.
In the gallery you will see us making worry dolls like Billy did in the story, you will see us hot seating Billy to ask him questions about his feelings in the story and you will see us creating advice centres to offer people advice on how to deal with life's little worries :)

Our last trip of the year today and what an amazing day out it was! The sun was shining and we had fun pond dipping, seashore searching, ice cream eating and playing games on the beach. So proud as ever of your behaviour Year 2- you were all super! Special thanks to Mrs Lunt, Mrs Rustom and Mrs Kelly as well as Mrs Holmes and Mrs Hilsden :)

Shine non uniform day 2015, by Mrs Bailey

Thank you to everyone who generously donated to the charity SHINE (Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus, Information, Networking, Equality) on our non uniform day. We raised £178.25. As you can see from the photographs, yellow was central to our day! A special thank you to Mrs Stark and her team for organising a tasty yellow themed lunch.

In year 2 we have been studying the art work of African artist Martin Bulinya. We liked his work so much that it inspired us to have a go ourselves! We loved his use of bright colour and use of African patterns and artefacts in his work. Take a look at our work!

What a fun day we had on World Book Day! The costumes you came dressed in were AMAZING! Thank you so much for going to so much effort- you all looked wonderful. We completed a book scavenger hunt in our classroom which gamve us a lovely chance to get all of our book corner books and maybe have a look at some books we hadn't seen before :) We visited the library and had some lovely stories read to us- Aliens love underpants and Billy's Bucket! We also took part in the book swap in the hall. A fantastic day was had by all :)

When Miss Shaw told everybody we were going to Tesco for our school trip...we were all a bit confused! But what a fantastic time we had.
We made our own bread rolls, searched the store for Fairtrade Products, we sampled the cheeses from the cheese counter and talked about how our 5 a day can keep us healthy :)

Y2 Making African Surprise Fruit Skewers!, by Miss Shaw

We had great fun in the kitchen this week making African Surprise Fruit Skewers! In science we have been learning about the benefits of healthy eating and have been learning about where our fruit comes from. We used the iPads to find out which countries produced which fruits. We made our fruit skewers using some of the fruits we had researched and made a lovely African recipe dip. Thank you to Mrs Hilsden for helping us to prepare the skewers :)

Year 2 have had such fun this week learning about symmetry. We have had chance to create some fantastic symmetrical patterns and looked for patterns in shapes.

We have had a great few weeks in Year 2 learning all about staying fit and healthy! For our homework this week we had to make a poster on why exercise is good for you and I was so impressed with EVERYBODY's posters that I just had to share them on the website. Year 2 Investigating Artefacts, by Miss Shaw

This week we have been looking very closely at some artefacts that have been brought back from Kenya and from South Africa.
We have been learning about creating light and dark using pencils and how to use different types of pencil to create texture when drawing. We applied what we had learned by creating some detailed drawing of our artefacts. Just look how fabulous our drawings are!
