We have had a great half term of learning a new game- Tag Rugby! We have learnt some great new skills and enjoyed playing lots of games to practise these skills :)

This week we investigated different microhabitats in our school grounds. We found lots of interesting creatures and talked about the conditions in each microhabitat.

Thank you very much to Constable Francis who came to visit us this week to talk to us about his role as a Policeman. The children had some excellent questions for him which Constable Francis was more than happy to answer for us. He even let us try on some of his uniform! Thank you for a very interesting afternoon and for giving up time on your precious day off to come and talk to us :)

In Literacy we have been learning all about owls! Chester Zoo came to visit today to teach us all about nocturnal animals. We learnt lots of new and interesting facts to help with our topic.

We have painted some amazing African style paintings inspired by the work of the artist Martin Bulinya. We used our knowledge of colour mixing to mix all of our own colours and created our own patterns.

Y2 Glitter Bugs, by Mrs Harrison

We used glitter this week to represent germs on our hands. We experimented with what happens to the germs when we touch different surfaces and each other. We then investigated the best way to remove the germs, with either paper towels, cold running water or warm soapy water! We had great fun! 

Y2 Skeleton Shapes, by Mrs Harrison

This week we have been learning about the properties of 3D shapes! Today Mrs Harrison challenged us to predict how many straws and how many clay balls would be needed to make skeletons of the different shapes. The children worked so hard on their shapes and did a brilliant job!

 

Y2 World Book Day, by Mrs Harrison

WORLD BOOK DAY! 

We really enjoyed World Book Day in Year 2! This year we had a global focus and seeing as our class topic is Africa, we chose the story 'Handa's Surprise'. We had a full day of art based around the story. We all painted or collaged an animal from the story and helped create the background scenery. The display is now pride of place in the Year 2 corridor, please come and check it out! 

Y2 Pancake Day!, by Mrs Harrison

As part of our RE topic of Easter we spent today learning all about the Christian period of Lent and made pancakes to celebrate this tradition. The children had a great time with Mrs Hilsden and Miss Booth following the recipe, weighing and measuring the ingredients, helping cook the pancakes and obviously the best bit of all...eating them! 

Y2 African Maasai Necklaces, by Mrs Harrison

For our Amazing Africa topic we have been learning all about the Maasai Tribe. We looked at some of the clothing and jewellery they wear and used it as inspiration to make our own necklaces in the style of the Maasai. They look fabulous!!

We have loved the book we are using for literacy at the moment ' Jack and the Baked Beanstalk' by Colin Stimpson. Here we are taking part in a drama activity called a conscience alley. Should Jack climb the beanstalk or not? You decide! 

Y2 Investigating Kenya, by Mrs Harrison

This week we received lots of wonderful artefacts all the way from Kenya. We spent a lovely afternoon investigating the artefacts and seeing if we could predict what they were used for. We also investigated photographs to see if we could see any of the artefacts in use. We have really enjoyed learning about life in Kenya! 

Y2 Mental Health Week, by Mrs Harrison

Last week was Children's Mental Health week and we spent the week thinking about KINDNESS. The children came up with wonderful ideas on what being kind is and talked about how it feels when someone is kind to you. We all decorated a hand to go on our 'Tree of Kindness! and made some fantastic posters for homework to be displayed in school. 

Y2 The Great Fire of London, by Mrs Harrison

In Design Technology we made some houses from 1666. The children made their houses using cardboard and using the measuring skills they have learnt in Numeracy. The children then painted them and chose a design for their house. They look simply amazing on our classroom display!

Y2 Fire Station & Candle Factory Visit, by Mrs Harrison

We had such a fabulous time on our school trip today!

First we went to Chester Fire Station where the firefighters made us very welcome. We watched a drill, had a squirt of the hoses, explored the fire engines and even watched the firefighters rescue somebody who was trapped in a car!

We learnt all about the role of a firefighter and the equipment that they use now compared to life in 1666 when firefighters were fighting the Great Fire of London.

We spent a wonderful time at the Cheshire workshops making candles and candle holders.

Thank you to all the staff at the Fire station and Cheshire workshops, to the school staff and to Mrs Stuart, who all helped us to have a brilliant time :)

We have had great fun this week learning all about our amazing city of Chester. We have worked on maps of Chester and for our History curriculum, have been finding out about some famous landmarks in Chester. Here we are making posters to tell everybody just why Chester is so great! 

Year 1 & 2 Story Time!, by Mrs Harrison

Year 1 and 2 have had a very busy week writing some wonderful stories! Year 1 have been writing Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Year 2 have been writing the Bog Baby's story. What better way to end the week than to share our stories with each other. We had a lovely time reading our stories to a partner and giving 2 stars and a wish. The stories were fantastic and both Mrs Harrisons were very proud 😄

This week we read the story Silly Billy by our 'Author of the Month' Anthony Brown. 

Pin the story Billy's Grandma gives him some worry dolls from Guatemala to tell his worries to. We decided we could do with some worry dolls too, just in case we are ever worried :)

Year 2 had an amazing time in Llandudno today! We had the best time and it was a lovely way to finish the year with you all! Thanks again to Mrs Vernon, Mrs Pierce, Mrs Wheatley, Mrs Petley, Mrs Brander and Miss Williams for joining us. It wouldn't have been possible without you!
