Y2 Glitter Bugs, by Mrs Harrison

We used glitter this week to represent germs on our hands. We experimented with what happens to the germs when we touch different surfaces and each other. We then investigated the best way to remove the germs, with either paper towels, cold running water or warm soapy water! We had great fun!

Year 1 brought in their favourite books from home to share with the rest of class. We had a fantastic selection of books!

As a class, we read the story 'We are family' and discussed how everyone has an extremely special family but everyone's family is different.

We had a wonderful time with Austin from Action Transport.

We acted out the story through role play and dressing up. We played games, listened to music from the show and learned about all the different jobs people do to put on a production

Y2 Skeleton Shapes, by Mrs Harrison

This week we have been learning about the properties of 3D shapes! Today Mrs Harrison challenged us to predict how many straws and how many clay balls would be needed to make skeletons of the different shapes. The children worked so hard on their shapes and did a brilliant job!

WORLD BOOK DAY! 

We really enjoyed World Book Day in Year 2! This year we had a global focus and seeing as our class topic is Africa, we chose the story 'Handa's Surprise'. We had a full day of art based around the story. We all painted or collaged an animal from the story and helped create the background scenery. The display is now pride of place in the Year 2 corridor, please come and check it out!

As part of our RE work we have been looking at the purpose and impact of charities on society. Following research into two charities - Christian Aid and Islamic Relief - we planned how we would set up a charity of our own. We enjoyed creating posters to promote our charities.

We had a lovely day today concentrating on World Book Day with a global theme. We read an African tale and listened to some beautiful African music while we were working on our writing based on the book.

Y2 Pancake Day!, by Mrs Harrison

As part of our RE topic of Easter we spent today learning all about the Christian period of Lent and made pancakes to celebrate this tradition. The children had a great time with Mrs Hilsden and Miss Booth following the recipe, weighing and measuring the ingredients, helping cook the pancakes and obviously the best bit of all...eating them!

" Great news !!! The Valentine PTA cake sale was a huge success raising a fantastic £ 163 !!!! Best one yet !! It's wonderful to see it so well supported ! We had a brilliant selection of yummy creative cakes! The children at Oldfield primary school are a very clever bunch ! Congratulations to the winners!!! Thank you to everyone that baked and purchased cakes!!!! And a big thank you to everyone that helped me set up the stalls and serve customers it was a busy sale so your help is invaluable!"

Y2 African Maasai Necklaces, by Mrs Harrison

For our Amazing Africa topic we have been learning all about the Maasai Tribe. We looked at some of the clothing and jewellery they wear and used it as inspiration to make our own necklaces in the style of the Maasai. They look fabulous!! 

Bird Day, by Mrs Harrison

On Wednesday, Year 1 had a bird day. We looked closely at birds, sketching them using pencils and black biro pens. We then added information to our sketches by researching birds using videos, books and Ipads.

In the afternoon, we identified different birds around the forest and field. What beautiful sounds they make!

Year 1 then used their knowledge about the features of birds and their artistic skills to create clay birds.

We have had lots of fun learning all about birds.

Year 1 shared compliments and smiles to their friends on Tuesday.

We then created bright and colourful hearts to share our happiness with family at home.

'Ancient Greek Theatre Mask' inspired clay work, by Mrs Hover

After researching and looking at different theatre masks from Ancient Greece, the children drew several of their favourite designs in their sketchbooks. Next, they chose one design and created a more detailed charcoal drawing, which they then sculpted out of clay.

All of Year 4's clay work is currently displayed in the space in front of the main entrance door.

We have loved the book we are using for literacy at the moment ' Jack and the Baked Beanstalk' by Colin Stimpson. Here we are taking part in a drama activity called a conscience alley. Should Jack climb the beanstalk or not? You decide! 

Y2 Investigating Kenya, by Mrs Harrison

This week we received lots of wonderful artefacts all the way from Kenya. We spent a lovely afternoon investigating the artefacts and seeing if we could predict what they were used for. We also investigated photographs to see if we could see any of the artefacts in use. We have really enjoyed learning about life in Kenya!
